First Meeting Re-cap

First meeting a spring semester 2011! If you missed, here are the important bits of info:

The meetings will now start at 5:30pm. Still every Tuesday. There is a lot going on this semester, which means more opportunity than ever to get involved with Raven Films!

The colleges of arts is merging with communications, to become "The College of Fine Arts and Communication". This is a big deal for us at Raven Films because it is the perfect opportunity for us to secure our spot as the bridge between theatre and mass communications. We hope to pave the road for a close-knit relationship between the two departments, as well the school of music.

That being said, membership is beginning to grow (and hopefully continues!). Because of this, we have to re-think our structure of operations. We are implementing several new committees, that will entail the active participation of Raven Films members. This not only fascilitates interaction with other SHSU departments and organizations, but provide much more opportunity for Raven Films members to actively contribute to the group. There is something for virtually everyone to do.

We begin with the Publicity and Festival committee, being supervised by our Public Relations officer, Cody. He will be looking for a committee chair person, as well as a dedicated team that will assist in promoting the group. Duties will include poster and flyer designs, organizing screenings for our films, and reaching out to filmmakers around Texas to possibly screen their films on the SHSU campus. This committee is ultimately about networking.

Our Historian, Jaron aka "Stick" has put together a fantastic website for the group. If you are interested in web authoring/desing please let him know and get involved. You can visit the website at http://www.ravenfilmsshsu.org/

Vice President, Ashley, will be looking for a chair person of the "Production Comittee". The purpose of this comittee will be to reach out to other organizations and departments, and even the community, to provide video services. Essentially we will use our knowledge and skills with video to assist in promoting other organizations, or whatever their needs. We currently have several SHSU Department of Theatre promo and archiving productions in the works, and potentially we may be offering services to The Honors program, and SGA. If interested, please speak with Ashley, or myself.

We are gearing up to start our own webshow called "The Raven Review". It is a candid movie review show that is very "by the students, for the students" oriented. See secretary Alex if you are interested.

Finally, we are greenlighting an experimental project written by our very own, Jerat. This is a very unique piece and will require six different directors to step foward and take a dive into this script. If you are interested in this piece, please visit with the project coordinator, Treasurer Gerald.

There is alot going on but we are gearing up for expansion, and further fulfilment of our mission to benefit the SHSU campus and community as a whole. Film is a very powerful medium, and it is time that we show SHSU what it can truly do!

The meetings will be in the LSC room 315. Afterwards, we will have what we call "activity night" which essentially is a social gathering in which we do something fun or film-related. These will be right after the meetings, and will go until about 7/7:30 pm.

Hope to see you at the next meeting!
Spread the word and bring a friend! (also, we need LOTS of zombie extras for our current production XD)
